Lu Dumas
Lu Dumas is a multifaceted professional with a passion for continuous learning and a profound dedication to her family. Her dynamic career began as a television news anchor and reporter in California, leading her to Texas and North Carolina. In Texas, Lu expanded her expertise by teaching media classes at the University of Texas in Austin. Her journey in the media industry inspired her to launch her own public speaking company, traveling nationwide to share her knowledge in brand marketing, public relations, content creation, and strategic planning.
Lu's role extends beyond professional achievements; she has been a devoted caregiver to her husband, Bob Dumas, the legendary Raleigh radio personality of G105’s “Bob and the Showgram.” Bob is a survivor of brain and sarcoma cancers, conditions that have required constant medical attention and care. Lu's unwavering support and management of his health needs underscore her commitment, strength, and compassion as a partner.
Currently, Lu harnesses her extensive media experience at LU DUMAS MEDIA LLC, where she guest lectures while working as a Public Relations Specialist for a leading national marketing agency. In 2021, she diversified her career further by becoming a licensed realtor, now thriving in her referral real estate business with EXP Realty.
Lu's personal life is as rich and fulfilling as her professional endeavors. Married more than 30 years, Bob and Lu are proud parents to two grown daughters and have co-hosted their lifestyle podcast, THE BOB AND LU SHOW, which discusses a variety of topics centered around being empty-nesters. That podcast is available on all major platforms. Their personal and professional partnership has been a cornerstone of their shared success.
Lu was an active participant in her children's educational journey, dedicating her time to school fundraisers and serving as a room mom and volleyball coach, enriching the school community with her involvement. That commitment extended to the broader educational landscape as she served on the board of the Wake County School System's Business Alliance. In this role, Lu made significant contributions towards guiding high school students in achieving their career goals, demonstrating her deep commitment to nurturing future generations and fostering educational development.
One of Lu's significant achievements is her pivotal role in the success of Bobby J's, a salsa company that started in their kitchen with Bob’s famous recipe. Under her leadership, Bobby J's expanded to over 200 grocery and specialty stores across the Southeast, showcasing her entrepreneurial spirit and business acumen.
Beyond her career, Lu's philanthropic efforts include serving as the Executive Director of “Bob’s Buddies,” a charity she and Bob founded following his battle with brain cancer. Since 2007, Bob's Buddies has raised millions for pediatric brain tumor research and treatment. Additionally, Lu served on the Regional Advisory Board of the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation, contributing to the fight against this devastating disease.
As Lu continues her lifelong commitment to education, she is completing her Master's Degree in Integrated Marketing Communications at UNCW, with graduation anticipated this May. Her story is one of resilience, dedication, and the power of love through the challenges of life and health.
