Diversity & Inclusion
When studying diversity and inclusion, I researched a topic that was personally important to me which is gendered ageism in the workplace. My presentation discussed the hurdles older women must overcome in the workplace. I utilized several theories that were especially intriguing to me. One was the term "intersectionality" derived from Professor Kimberle Crenshaw. The word captures the essence of identity markers and how they connect. We all identify with a number of these labels. This project provides great insight into the need to implement diversity in the workplace, remembering that “diversity” is not just race or gender but age as well. As an IMC practitioner, I have clarity about the compelling need for inclusion from collaboration to representation.
